Professor Andrew Bacevich, author of The Limits of Power: The End of American Exceptionalism has a new article out to pave the way for the release of his new book next week. It is posted on TomDispatch.com and Huffington Post. You can see it here: The End of (Military) History? In this piece he artfully riffs on Fukuyama'a famous, absurd and iconic piece on the supposed triumph of Western Liberalism and the "The End of History?." If this article outlines his new book, I will be in line for it next Tuesday when it comes out: Washington Rules: America's Path to Permanent War. On the surface the title at least seems to echo Gore Vidal's Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. In any case, I dream every day that someone high up in the US Foreign Policy Establishment would say some of the things that Bacevich does and indicate that they at least have some understanding for how absurd our foreign policy has been for so long. It's not working, is that not obvious? How much do we have to spend in lives and treasure before we will realize that as a society?
