A year ago in the aftermath of the June 12th election, protests in Iran escalated to the largest seen since 1979. Millions of people all over the world watched protesters beaten, run over and shot in numerous cell phone videos posted on YouTube. We watched the chilling video of the life flow out of a young Neda. Many people, here in the US, saw the Iranian population for the first time.
Then what? A year later where are we?
After a year of wrangling over the issue the Ahmadinejad/Khamenei coalition likes to keep on the front pages the most we succeeded in getting a new sanctions routine rammed through the UN Security Council. Cause for celebration? Hardly. US policy has been one of the greatest obstacles the Green/Refrom movement has faced.
